Schools Climate Assembly 2022

In October 2022, we reconvened in Sheffield for the second Schools Climate Assembly, hosted by King Edward VII Upper School.

“We have real hope in two distinct forms. Firstly, we’ve got solutions to most of our problems. Secondly, we’ve got young people. People who think clearly and aren’t encumbered with old ideas. People who speak clearly and speak their minds.

Chris Packham, leading naturalist and wildlife TV presenter

In October 2022, we brought schools back together for the second Schools Climate Assembly in Sheffield. In partnership with Friends of the Earth, the day featured interactive workshops delivered by organisations at the heart of the climate movement, as well as talks from campaigners and experts including Chris Packham, Miriam Turner and Mikaela Loach.

The day began with a panel discussion on what it means to be an activist hearing from activists, presenters, academics and campaigners on the many ways young people can engage with the climate movement.

Students also took part in workshops run that included looking at climate justice and migration with the European Network for Anti-Racism, learning about the causes and solutions of the energy crisis with Friends of the Earth and how schools can reduce their CO2 emissions with Green Schools Project.

The importance of creativity was highlighted by a poetry performance from Sile Sibanda and the day was concluded with live music from Back Chat Brass and King Edward’s own talented students.
